Anupro place disease prevention as a top priority. Severe disease outbreak can represent significant cost both in terms of veterinary costs associated with treating sick animals and losses associated with poor performance and mortality. At a very basic level, disease occurs as a result of pathogen load outweighing immune competence, a scenario which is easily avoidable in principle but often difficult to execute. The Anupro products and programmes are designed to optimise immune competence and promote gut health, the latter being essential in maintaining immune competence and reducing pathogen load. Furthermore, complementary managerial approaches on farm can be implemented and include the provision of dry clean beds, adequate space allowance and optimising ventilation. We welcome the opportunity to tailor these solutions to your farm needs.
Diarrhoea is mainly due to high pathogenic load causing a severe inflammatory response in the gut which dramatically reduces nutrient absorption and places the calf in severe immune suppression. This allows the establishment of secondary infections that often are the main cause of death. A high pathogen load results from either high levels of environmental contamination or immune suppression caused by poor nutrition.
Outwith the implementation of the Anupro Superior Calf Programme, there are two important products (antibiotic free) that can be used in conjunction for the prevention of scour:
Without knowing the cause of scour, treatment with antimicrobial medication can be futile as in many cases the cause is viral or parasitic. The initial approach should be to relieve pain and improve vitality. Preventing dehydration is an important factor and is critical in the recovery process as continued water loss can result in kidney failure and acidosis, and subsequent shutdown of maintenance functionality. Anupro products treat the infection by targeting the gut environment and upsetting pathogenic communication channels, reducing pathogenic proliferation. Furthermore, they provide rapid rehydration and improved cell function, facilitating a rapid response and recovery to infection.
Reducing stress, both nutritional and environmental, is an important factor in minimising pneumonia. Nutritional stress occurs when nutrient supply is poor or when nutrient absorption is suboptimal due to an inflammatory response in the gut caused by high pathogen load. Environmental stressors are multiple and include transportation, mixing with unfamiliar animals, interventions (e.g. disbudding), poorly designed accommodation (e.g. low space allowance, poor ventilation etc.), poor weather conditions etc., all of which reduce immune competence and increase the risk of high pathogen loading.
It is vital that symptoms of pneumonia are recognised as early as possible to aid recovery, these include; changes in behaviour, depression, ears down, decreased appetite, nasal discharge, coughing and rapid breathing.
Prevention is absolutely critical as chronic pneumonia will cause some degree of permanent lung damage which has long-term detrimental effects on future health and production.
Outwith the implementation of the Anupro programmes, there are two important products (antibiotic free) that can be used in conjunction in the prevention of pneumonia:
Early detection is critical to limiting permanent lung damage. In the early stages of pneumonia, an anti-inflammatory will reduce pain and inflammation and encourage normal feeding behaviour, improving immune competence and enabling an effective response. In the later stages (associated fever) please consult your vet for the appropriate treatment of sick animals. ANuStart will improve the calf’s immune competence and aid recovery.
Coccidiosis, a protozoal parasite, causes the destruction of the intestinal tract of the calf / lamb and is spread through the ingestion of faecal matter from contaminated feed or the environment. Pathogenic coccidia oocysts (eggs) are taken in orally, hatch in the gut and enter the epithelial cells of the mucosal layer where they reproduce until cell rupture and release. Clinical signs include liquid faeces, blood and intestinal mucosa in faeces, rectal contamination, dehydration, pressing etc.
Outwith the implementation of the Anupro nutritional, housing and environmental recommendations, there are two important products (antibiotic free) that are used in conjunction to boost the immune system and optimise the gut environment to prevent Coccidiosis:
Anupro products treat the infection by targeting the gut environment and upsetting pathogenic communication channels, both of which are effective against pathogenic proliferation. Furthermore, they restore the animal’s immune competence, gut integrity and ensure adequate rehydration which will improve cell function, facilitating a rapid response to the infection. Please consult your vet in very severe outbreaks for a medicated response.
