In the beef supply chain today 57% of beef originates from the dairy herd and in terms of establishing a sustainable beef industry, it is important that this production system is both efficient and effective in delivering a high quality product. The DairyBeef Programme addresses in detail the management required to optimise calf rearing which facilitates effective and easy finishing delivering a consistent and high quality product to the consumer.

Currently beef production systems within the British Isles are highly fragmented delivering a vastly variable product due to a wide variation in age of slaughter, carcass weight, conformation grade and fat class. The figure below illustrates the variability in age of slaughter against carcass weight of prime steers and highlights the extent of this problem. Anupro propose that a Golden Box specification would deliver more efficiency at farm level and would dramatically improve the quality and consistency of the product offered to consumers.

The Anupro DairyBeef Programme is designed to deliver animals within this highly specific “Golden Box” specification. The programme focuses on critical developmental time points during early life that are crucial for the future growth potential of the beef animal. This programme embraces a new era of ruminant nutrition, whereby bespoke rations are formulated to establish synergy between balanced nutritional inputs, the immune system and the animal’s internal environment. Furthermore, to meet the needs of the consumer in terms of meat quality this approach is based steer and heifer supply chains.
