Anupro’s OptiFinish & EasyBeef Programmes

Anupro recognise that conventional beef production systems represent the majority of commercial beef supply in the UK today and we understand the challenges facing suckler, store and finishing farmers in maintaining profitable systems. The common and most important factor for all farmers is to drive efficiency and to do this it is crucial to target early life growth where feed efficiency is optimal. Anupro have designed a number of dynamic programmes to optimise production in early life by enhancing metabolic programming and improving the animal’s lifetime potential for growth and placing them on a more productive trajectory. All models detailed are based on ad lib concentrate intake but can be tailored for total mixed rations.

OptiFinish Calf to Beef Programme

This programme is ideally designed for, but not limited to, continental calves finishing as steers and heifers at 12 months of age.

Autumn Calving

This innovative approach whereby calves get ad lib access to concentrates from birth (creep fed at grass) is targeting a lifetime performance of >1.7kgs / day. This concept is intensive, but the benefits multifaceted:

Preweaning, this system has a dramatic benefit on calves sucking cows with poor milk production eliminating stunted growth and offering the opportunity to achieve their genetic potential by placing them on a very high growth trajectory.
Not forcing calves to graze hard to meet the energy and protein requirements needed to achieve genetic potential.
Higher stocking density on farm yielding a higher output per hectare. When animal performance is high, stocking rate is one of the main determinants of profitability.
Ability to finish steers and heifers at 12 months of age at an FCR of 4.5-5.0
- Target carcass weight for all steers of 340kgs+ (fat class 3 and above)
- Target carcass weight for all heifers of 320kgs+ (fat class 3 and above)
If selling calves as weanlings, weight and appearance is optimised making calves extremely saleable.
Lower carbon footprint of beef production
- Reducing the age at slaughter will reduce lifetime dry matter intake and subsequent water consumption and greatly reduce methane emissions per unit of product produced.

Spring Calving

In a Spring-calving system, whereby the majority of cows and calves go to grass after calving, the programme is adapted to introduce concentrates at grass, pre-weaning, from 200kgs onwards via creep feeders and still achieve good lifetime feed efficiency. However, the earlier concentrate feeding can be introduced, the better the average trajectory the calf crop will be on for lifetime performance. This adapted programme is targeting a lifetime performance of 1.6kgs / day. Again the benefits of this system are multifaceted:

Ability to finish steers and heifers at 13-14 months of age at an FCR of 5.0-5.5

EasyBeef Programme

The Anupro EasyBeef Programme is designed to manage purchased suckled calves or young stores and addresses challenges associated transition. The programme effectively manages animals onto concentrate based grower-finisher rations whilst preventing disease.
